Assistant Professor Naoaki Kawai has joined the faculty.

My name is Masatoshi Kawai, and I joined the faculty as of March 1.
My research focuses on optimization, large-scale parallelization, dynamic load balancing, and auto-tuning, with a primary emphasis on linear computation algorithms.
Skiing is my hobby, so I was looking forward to my first assignment in the Tohoku region.
I look forward to working with you all.

We attend ATAT2025!

Hello! I’m Ryota Koda, a second-year master’s student.

I attended the 2025 Conference on Advanced Topics and Auto Tuning in High-Performance Scientific Computing (ATAT2025), held from March 21 to 22!

From Takizawa Lab, Professor Takizawa, Shubham, and I presented our research.

We received the Best Paper Award at Supercomputing Asia 2025

The following co-authored paper with Assistant Professor Muhammad Alfian Amrizal and his team from Gadjah Mada University, Indonesia, has received the Best Paper Award at Supercomputing Asia 2025.

3/12 Best paper award at Supercomputing Asia 2025
The following co-authored paper with University of Gajah Mada in Indonesia (Dr. Muhammad Alfian Amrizal et al.) won the best paper award at Supercomputing Asia 2025.

Takizawa Lab attend SCA2025!

Hello! I’m Ryota Koda, a second-year master’s student.

From March 10 to March 13, I participated in SCA2025, which was held in Singapore.
At SCA2025, researchers in the HPC field from across the Asia region gathered, and talks were given on cutting-edge technologies such as generative AI and quantum computing.

Additionally, the ceremony for last year’s APAC HPC/AI Competition was held!
This year, Shubham and I are planning to participate in the APAC HPC/AI Competition.

At the end of the conference, Professor Takizawa took the stage to introduce SCA/HPCAsia 2026, which will be held in Osaka next year!
I’ll keep working hard to produce great research results and participate again next year!

We held a farewell party!

Hello, this is Tanizawa, an M1 student.

The other day, we held a farewell party for Mr. Cui , which also served as the year-end gathering for the 2024 academic year.
Next year, new members will be joining, and our structure will change significantly. We will continue to do our best so that we can make our departing senior proud!

I participated in the Multidisciplinary Seminar & Techno Festival!

Hello, this is Tanizawa, an M1 student.

On February 25th and 26th, the Techno Festival and Matchmaking Session took place, followed by the Multidisciplinary Seminar on February 27th!

During the Techno Festival and Multidisciplinary Seminar, I presented my research findings and future plans to private companies and other M1 students from different research labs. Additionally, in the Matchmaking Session, I attended company presentations from various businesses to gain a deeper understanding of their work.

Explaining my research in simple terms that non-experts could understand was quite challenging, but it was a great learning experience! Furthermore, listening to other students’ research and company presentations broadened my perspective, making the event highly valuable.

I will continue to work hard on my research, taking into account the feedback I received!

The graduation research presentation session has been completed

Hello, this is Imai, a fourth-year student.
Recently, I gave a presentation at the graduation research presentation session, along with Nomura.
I was able to successfully complete the presentation and engage in meaningful discussions with both students and professors. Based on the feedback I received during the presentation, I will work even harder on writing my graduation thesis. I would like to sincerely thank all the professors and fellow students who supported me with my graduation research and presentation practice.

The final review session for the master’s thesis has been completed

Hello, this is Koda, a second-year master’s student.

Last week, I gave a presentation at the final review session for my master’s thesis. I was able to successfully complete the presentation and submit the draft version of my thesis.

I will now work on revising the final version of my thesis based on the feedback I received during the review session.
I would like to sincerely thank all the professors and fellow students who supported me with thesis revisions and presentation practice.

We held our year-end party!

Hello, this is Imai, a fourth-year undergraduate student.
The year-end party was held recently.
It was a great event where we could have open conversations regardless of nationality or academic year, making it a wonderful way to wrap up 2024.
In 2025, I hope to dedicate myself even more to my research.

Shubham presented at PDCAT 2024

I am Shubham, a first-year doctoral student.

I recently attended the PDCAT 2024 conference in Hong Kong, where I presented my research, “Leveraging Hardware Performance Counters for Predicting Workload Interference in Vector Supercomputers.” My study explores the application of machine learning to classify workloads, aiming to optimize resource management in HPC environments.
The presentation garnered insightful feedback and sparked engaging discussions with global experts. These interactions provided valuable perspectives, fostering collaboration and inspiring new approaches to tackling workload interference challenges.

Beyond the conference, Hong Kong’s vibrant culture and stunning skyline added to the memorable experience.
The city’s dynamic environment offered a perfect setting for innovation and reflection. This visit marked a significant milestone in my academic journey, reinforcing my commitment to advancing workload placement strategies in vector supercomputing and beyond.
